Water from Air?

You're in the raging heat of an Israeli desert, trapped and without water in the middle of a war; not ideal conditions to open up your canteen and find clean, filtered, cold, and refreshing water. Thanks to an Israeli company Water-Gen, created by a former Israeli special forces commander, takes this problem and makes it not that big of a problem, instead they just manufacture water, from air!
The water generator takes humidity in the air and purifies it, the machine collects data on the outside humidity, temperature, and more and uses the most efficient way to make water. They have a big unit for camps that is five cubic feet, they also have mobile units for use on vehicles that can bring the water to the cabin to allow troops to stay in the safety of the cabin. This is a very important discovery and invention because water weighs a lot and this could potentially weigh a lot less and it would be easy to donate one of these units to villages that need better and more drinking water.

  1. This is a really interesting topic to think about. I remember hearing something about this process where people stranded in the desert would dig a hole, and cover it in clear plastic to get condensation from the soil and any plants in the area. This condensation would then drip into a container giving them water to survive. Another way I have heard about still uses condensation but it is done by putting a bag on a tree branch to collect it. It is very cool that someone decided to make a machine that does this. This machine will make water much faster then these other methods I described, and I have read some articles that say this machine is also solar powered so it can be used from anywhere to create water. All of these things make it a lot easier to live in the heat of the desert.

  2. That is really cool. It's amazing to think how much this invention could impact people living in struggling countries. Another Nature of Science Theme that you could use for this article could be the "Importance of Repeatability." This invention could potentially inspire other inventions to be produced or improved and aid those who need fresh water.

  3. This is such an amazing invention! This could be used in so many different ways and could help so many people struggling to find clean drinking water. About 3.4 million people die every year from a water-related disease, in which of those deaths are because they do not have any access to sanitized drinking water. Not only does this invention benefit troops fighting in the middle east, but if this invention were to make it to communities that have absolutely no access to sanitized drinking water, this could save many many lives.

  4. If I was Water-Gen, I would expand my company into other countries, especially African countries, so that people who are struggling to survive, and that only drink dirty pond water can get clean, cold, and refreshing water for a small price, or no price (because people in Africa need that water now, and not all of them have money to spend on it).
