Plants convert energy at lightning speed

Scientists have found a new way in determining how much light plants can handle. It is the first time that scientists have been able to quantify the plants ability to protect itself. A changing climate will lead to varying conditions for plants and using this new test would greatly benefit farmers who need to maximize crop growth and for farmers who need to breed new plants. The scientists method allows them to relate the photo protective capacity of a plant to the intensity of environmental light. The method measures the fluorescence of chlorophyll. The scientists exposed plants to varying strengths of light and found that "plants without the ability to respond quickly to high light intensity had a reduced capacity to protect themselves from damage.

Science is collaborative: Scientists from different universities worked on the study
Science is based on evidence: They performed the experiment on varying levels of light

  1. Personally, I would also put that the role of motivation and curiosity is a theme in the article because the scientists are curious to know how much light a plant can handle, and that doing this test would be beneficial to the farmers.
