Plants convert energy at lightning speed

Plants convert energy at lightning speed

A new way of measuring how much light a plant can sustain could be helpful in growing crops resilient to a climate change. According to scientists at the Queen Mary University in London this is the first time we have been able to evaluate a plant's ability to protect itself from high light concentration. Professor Ruban stated that a changing climate will lead to variations in temperature, humidity, drought, and light. Erica Belgio said that the plants they used to measure the light varied in the plants capacity to protect itself against high level light concentration. From this testing researchers discovered that the plants grown without the ability to react rapidly to high light concentration had a reduced capacity to protect themselves in case they were in danger of being harmed.
