2. The article is explaining how they have discovered a new species of stone oak in Thailand. The species is named Lithocarpus orbicarpus. It is a relatively average size tree with leaves that are not unique. The way to distinguish it is to look at the spherical acorns that are covered by irregular scales. There is only one tree that have been found so far and it is located in the Ton Pariwat Wildlife Sanctuary.

3. The themes that are found in this article is that science is collaborative and that science has the role of chance. There is the role of collaboration because Chinese and Thai biologists found the tree together. The role of chance is that they found the tree because the tree was hidden for multiple years but they came by at the right time to find the tree.

  1. I think it is awesome that scientists are still finding new species all the time. This discovery could lead to more, which i find very interesting.

  2. Its surprising how we have inhabited this planet for so long and we are still finding new species of plants and animals.According to this smithsonian article, http://ocean.si.edu/blog/one-fish-two-fish-estimating-undiscovered-species, it is estimated that we still haven't found thousands of species of fish, it makes me wonder how many species of other plants and animals that we have yet to discover.

  3. I agree with you Alex, It is truly amazing how little we know about our own planet. It feels that we should know everything by now since humans have been living on this planet for 200,000 years, however every day there are new discoveries in different fields of science that revolutionise our way of life, and these discoveries keep coming and coming and more then likely always will.
