New dolphin species discoverd off Australian coast

Link to Article

A group of international scientists has discovered a new type of dolphin that lives off the coast of northern Australia. It is thought to be a type of the humpback dolphin because of its characteristic dorsal fin. The team of scientists believes that the species should be split into 3 separate species to more accurately define these animals. The scientists collected over 100 skulls and 200 DNA samples to find this information. This study is verified by the Wildlife Conservation Society and the journal Molecular Energy.

Another article on the same topic talks about the characteristics and significance of the animal. The dolphin grows to 2.8 meters long and lives shallow, coastal areas. The significance of this discovery is that it goes against the decrease in biodiversity.
